Norfolk Southern Train 30T with 8 locomotives and 80 cars @ 08:47 a.m….

Winter and sunny skies has always been (at least to me) a double-edged sword…. Because the clearer the skies, usually the colder the day…. Today was no exception. The temperature was 10 degrees this morning with a real feel of about 11 degrees so when I heard the Train 37T setting off the defect detector at M.P. 676 at around 07:00, I made no effort to intercept…. That and the fact that it was still halfway dark out.

Not much longer afterwards I heard Train 30T comin’ down the line. It’s both exciting and frustrating when listening to the scanner. On the one hand, it’s a thrill as to what locomotive gems you might catch on the fly, but frustrating in that you never know if it’s something worth pursuing.

Today I didn’t expect much but got an 8 diesel locomotive power play (which was clearly a power move of sorts) with a CEFX leaser and a mixed variety of EMD and GE locomotives. The breakdown is as follows:

EMD SD70ACe – #1155
EMD SD70M-2 – #2652
EMD SD70M-2 – #2735
EMD SD60 – #6709
GE Dash 9-44CW – #1029 (CEFX)
GE Dash 9-40CW – #8981
EMD SD9043MAC – #7280
GE now ES44DC – #7575

Didn’t quite get all of the details surrounding it but the last unit (and ironically the newest) was having problems all the way into Enola.
