Pan Am Railways recently received (5) GMTX SD40-2s for use in “pool” service on Trains 11R and 14R between East Deerfield, Ma. and Enola Yard in Harrisburg. The freshly painted units numbered #3400-#3404 came up from the south on the CSX early in November and have been powering trains on the Pan Am Southern (PAS) and the ex-D&H South Line ever since. All five are ex-Canadian QNSL (Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway) units and probably spent lots of time hauling some of the heaviest trains in North America in the form of 200+ car unit ore trains.
