General American Airslide Covered Hoppers

Airslides have been common members of freight train consists since their 1960s introduction. General American left the car-building business in the early 1980s and a large percentage of the cars remained in General American ownership and served as the car-builder’s lease fleet. Trinity Rail Car entered into a manufacturing agreement with GATX and acquired rights to select General American designs. Airslides of a larger capacity remained in Trinity’s catalog and production came out of Ft. Worth, Texas, beginning in December 1984.
