(Part 1 of 2) Epic Hump Day Railfanning: 3 Trains And A Light Engine Move In 2 Hours

37T-Light-Power-3-2-2016 (1)

Having just pushed a disabled 14R over Clark’s Summit and into Dalton, light power from Train 37T eases downgrade to its train @ 06:33 a.m..

Until today, Sunday, June 14, 2015 had the distinction of being the most epic day of railfanning ever. You can see what happened RIGHT HERE….

But unlike that day which heated up as the day wore on, today started out heavy within 5 minutes of turning on the radio….

A bit of a drama was taking place as the power from NS Train 37T had to push a crippled NS Train 14R up the hill out of Scranton and onto Dalton where not 1, but 2 other trains, 36T and K82 right behind him were waiting to go down the hill.

By the time 37Ts light power came back down it was my impression that the 36T would follow him and they’d both meet again @ Taylor…. Not so. About 30 minutes after disappearing downgrade 37T stormed up the hill @ 07:10 a.m. with 63 cars and onto Binghamton, NY. Because of the issues with 14R the 37T ended up having to “hold out” at New Milford for a time before being allowed to proceed into the yard.

With the two northbounds out of the way the 36T made its way down the grade @ exactly 08:00 a.m. sharp with 55 cars bound for Allentown Yard. This train was unique in having a large amount of containers in its makeup… Forty-two minutes later K82 made its way down to Taylor with its usual makeup of EMP containers and interchange traffic for the Reading & Northern.

So between 06:00 and 09:00 a.m. we had 4 trains through the area with the best still yet to come hours later in the afternoon…. But that is in Part 2!
