J.B. Hunt…. Moving To Taylor Yard?

Although this is still speculation to me at this point, I got this information from a very reliable source (a high-ranking NS employee) that J.B. Hunt Trucking has indeed purchased land adjacent to the Taylor Yard in Taylor, Pa.. Assuming that this information is true then I don’t have to explain what that means.

Down in Bucks County, a similar situation took place when J.B. Hunt commissioned BL Companies to design and coordinate a new 1,800 square foot office, access drive and truck/car parking at their intermodal trucking facility which was set within a 90 acre property owned by the Norfolk Southern. The facility serves as the distribution center for goods arriving by rail and transported by the J.B. Hunt truck fleet.

Work included a survey, land development and zoning permit plans, erosion and sediment control plans and coordinating the architectural building permit plans with the modular office provider and the local municipality. From the looks of it, something like that may be happening in here in NEPA.

My source also tells me that things are going to be getting very busy around Northeast Pa. with the coming of the warm weather. Apparently a call was made to Binghamton from Atlanta and the question that was asked was if Bingo-Town could handle more traffic. The answer was “yes” so only time will tell if these predictions are accurate.

Looking from Taylor toward the south side of Scranton you can see some of the available land area near the Norfolk Southern Taylor Yard. Rumor has it that that flat yellow area was purchased by trucking giant J.B. Hunt to be used for a large intermodal terminal. The tracks in the foreground are the Sunbury Main Line and the 7,200 foot long passing siding which, as of a few weeks ago, has become part of the Taylor Yard limits.

There are a lot of places in that area that use intermodal… Carbondale, Tannersville, Tunkahannock, Pittston have RDCs for P&G, Walmart, TJX, ect ect. It’ll be a busy place for once.
