Union Pacific #1996 (The Southern Pacific Heritage Unit) In Sayre, Pa.

Railfans in the Northeast got a triple treat in February and March when the Union Pacific #1996 (the Southern Pacific Heritage Unit) made several appearances in Pennsylvania and New York.

The first two of the three were on the CSX ex-New York Central Water Lever Route to and from the Albany area of NY State. But as fate would have it, it returned a third time, this time on Norfolk Southern‘s Southern Tier, where it spent the better part of two weeks doing local duty on trains like the H12 between Elmira, NY and Sayre, Pa..

It goes without saying that the black & orangeĀ Daylight inspired celebrity drew out scores of railfans from Pa., NY, NJ and possibly even further.
