Crab Orchard & Egyptian Railroad (COER)
The Crab Orchard and Egyptian Railway (COER) (formerly American Rail Heritage, Ltd. d/b/a Crab Orchard and Egyptian Railroad Company) is a Class 3 shortline railroad operating between Marion and Herrin, Illinois. And although a small railroad not widely known by the masses, it’s historically recognizable as being the last U.S. railroad of any kind to use steam locomotives exclusively in regular revenue freight service right up until 1986!… And you probably thought steam in America ended with the Norfolk & Western!
