Saratoga and North Creek Railway (SNC)

Take a look at that shiny boxcar…. It’s a relatively new paint job for a boxcar belonging to a relatively new railroad…. The Saratoga and North Creek Heritage Railway of upstate NY.

The Saratoga and North Creek Railway is a railroad that operates over former Adirondack Railway trackage built in 1871. The Delaware & Hudson ran through this region until September 1989 when the mine at Tahawus which produced magnetite, ilmenite, and titanium was closed.

In 1999, the Upper Hudson River Railroad began operating excursion trains south from North Creek to Riverside Station in Riparius. By December 2010, the Upper Hudson River Railroad lost their contract with Warren County and ended after 11 years of operation.

On July 14, 2011, IPH began operating trains as the Saratoga and North Creek Railroad and with its creation, regularly scheduled service returned to the line for the first time since the D&H quit freight operations in 1989.
