The Luzerne and Susquehanna Railway is a shortline that operates on about 55 miles of track in and around the Wyoming Valley of Luzerne County. It’s the successor to the beloved Pocono Northeast Railway of the 1980s.

The Pocono Northeast began operations on former Lackawanna, CNJ, Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley & Delaware & Hudson track on September 23, 1982 and operated until November of 1993.

For almost a year afterward, the Delaware Lackawanna served the lines until August, 1994 when the L&S took over. The L&S connects to the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad in Pittston and to the Norfolk Southern at three separate junctions.

The L&S is headquartered in Owego, New York, and is part of a holding company that has several other shortlines including the Owego Harford and the Lehigh Railway.
