Seminole Gulf Railroad (SGLR)
The Seminole Gulf Railway (SGLR) is a Class 3 short line railroad headquartered in Fort Myers, Florida that began operating on two former CSX lines in Southwest Florida in late 1987.
Seminole Gulf’s main line (the former CSX Fort Myers Subdivision) runs from Arcadia south through Punta Gorda, Fort Myers, and Bonita Springs before terminating just a mile south of crossing into Collier County in North Naples for a distance of nearly 80 miles.
Another separate line runs nearly 20 miles from just south of Bradenton in Oneco south through Sarasota. This line is the former CSX Sarasota Subdivision and used to go as far south as Venice when the Seminole Gulf acquired it, but was shortened to Palmer Ranch (just south of Sarasota) somewhere in the mid 2000s. Also included in the Sarasota line is a short 5-mile branch from downtown Sarasota back north to Matoaka.
In addition to its Sunshine State operations, the Seminole Gulf Railway has a commonly owned affiliated company, the Bay Colony Railroad Corp. (BCLR), which is based in southeastern Massachusetts.
